We played an awesome game last night against Clayton FC, probably the best we have played so far in 3 seasons. Everyone was at their best, we had a full count of all critical players. The key to success was Kevin Jarvis, who was almost unbeatable in goal. He controlled all rebounds, made some incredible saves and also passed the ball forward perfectly.
Tactically we finally executed on our plan: Let them do what they want in their third, meet them in the neutral third, and follow them whenever they move into our third. And mark the men tightly so they have nowhere to pass the ball. Worked out great.
Joe started it off with his great ball control and dribblings and gave us 2 early goals. Clayton never put their game together and we we able to add more goals to a 5:2 lead at half time. We expected full pressure beginning of the second half, but held on fine and even scored the 6:2 (in an unbelievable double-double-double-double-pass play by Attila and Mark!!!). At some point we were even 8:3 up so the mercy rule kicked in. Ending 8:4 was deeply satisfying.
The ref (Rick) was very good as usual and let us play a hard, but fair game. No cards on our side, 2 blue cards for Clayton.
As I said, probably our best game so far - way to go team!!!!!
