Game report: Fred's Market - Workdaze 4:4

It was a deja vu game against Fred's Market last night. Same as in the playoffs: if we would have had our full team together, we would have won that game. However, we missed several players again and the excuses are getting more and more bizarr: being on vacaction, being caught up at work is acceptable. But how about this: watching the kids while wife is horse riding (in the dark?!), or even better: rather going to watch some fish-food-hockey-team getting eaten by the Sharks (!!!).

We ended up playing with only 2 subs, getting help again from Mark Jaynes, who is about to become a steady part of team. Another problem was that several players just showed up when the game started. (Here is the coach speaking.) Maybe we should introduce some punishment for showing up late. How about last guy who shows up plays goalie? I know this would not really be a punishment for Salva, but could be fun.

Anyway, we started the game without being really ready and it was soon 2-0 for Fred's Market. It took us all first half to catch up with that result. Joe scored a beautiful goal of a rebound and Luiz tied the game. But the price was high for that. It took a lot of energy, especially since we had to take several penalties from our good friend with the whistle, including a 4-minute penalty at the end of second half for Luiz.

In the second half, we started out being better organized and played a solid defense trying to preserve our energy. The strategy paid off for a while. We scored on 2 fast counter attacks. First, Joe scored after a pass from Thomas. Then, we switched roles and did it again: Thomas scored after a pass from Joe and it was 4-2 for Workdaze. But the game was getting harder for us with every minute. Fred's Market put a lot of pressure on our goal now and our energy got less and less. They scored 2 times on rebounds, which is always a bit lucky, but we were too exhausted to turn it around again.

At the end, the game ended 4-4, which was a fair result.Goals: Joe (2), Luiz (1), Thomas (1).
Outstanding players of the night: Joe (Fred's Market was only able to take the ball from him with fouls, unfortunately, those fouls were rarely called by the ref)Armin (very busy in the offense causing a lot of trouble for Fred's Market's defense), Jon (for playing the whole game without any break, even playing in midfield some time !!!).Seamus (for keeping the beer supply flowing)

Game report: Survey FC - Workdaze 2:4

We had an unexpected good start last night, considering where we were yesterday at 4pm. Since several guys missed the game, here is a little summary:

At 4pm, we were thinking about canceling the game. Jon already called the indoor place to check for that. We had 3 players (Armin, Seamus, Thomas) on the list, plus Attila and Joe coming late, Jon knowing if he can play from the red card of last game, Ralf with a cold and an injured foot, and Kevin Jarvis with an injured knee. But it was a good decision not to cancel.

When we got to the game, we had at least a team and 1 sub (our special guest of the day: Mark Jaynes). In the first half, we were fighting like lions. Seamus and Jon, the towers in the defense, frustrated once again every striker of Survey FC and built that invisible wall around the penalty box. And Ralf kept the goal clean from the few shots that got through. Kevin and Mark (our newbies) did surprisingly well, and the rest kept Survey’s defense busy. We sure had more shots on goal than Survey did. We were at least even and the score was 1-1 in half time.

In the second half, we got support from Attila and Joe, but got a bit lazy knowing we have more subs now. In that phase, Survey scored and it did not look like we could come back for while. However, with our offense engine on full speed and a little help from the goalie, we tied. We had a couple of great chances (right, Kevin?) but it took us until about 5 minutes to go to score the 3-2. 3 minutes later the 4-2 followed. This time I was the lucky one to score all 4 goals, but I got set up nicely from Joe, Armin and the other guys. Our defense did the rest and Ralf had some great saves to not let Survey get on the scoreboard anymore.

At the end we were all happy to go out and play. With half of the team injured or new, it was a great team effort and we can look forward to the next games. We even spotted a new talent (Mark?).
