The season opener for 2016 had Workdaze FC face off against those sweaty Sweat Hogs! Coming off a nasty loss in the last finals to Red Devils, having conceded their last two games against those sweaty hogs, and properly lubed up with a ton of eggnog (and whatever else) from the holidays, the Workdaze FC men were ready to rock!
The team started strong by taking an early 2-0 lead thanks to two brilliant goals from Kevin Murray! A goal from Aidan Mitchell and another one from Eoin Parker, and one conceded goal had Workdaze ahead 4-1 at the half.
Our inside man shared the following with us from Kevin Murray at the halftime, "That was a good half lads, we controlled the ball, moved it very well and created a bunch of chances. Had Joe (Edgar) been here, he'd have had a hat-trick by now!"
The second half was somewhat of a different story.
It started out OK, as Dominic Viola assisted Aidan Mitchell to put Workdaze ahead 5-1. Two consecutive goals from Sweat Hogs, however, had them right back in the game.
Perhaps the eggnog took over, but Workdaze FC found themselves chasing the ball, and unable to find the back of the net.
Sweats kept the pressure on Workdaze FC and at one point Aidan Mitchell went up for a challenge and took a hard kick to the toe. Aidan had to sit out the rest of the game (post game interview with Aidan indicates that his injury is not that severe, well at least nothing's broken).
With the loss of Aidan from defense, Sweats had a few additional lucky goals and tied the game up at 5-5. With about a minute and some change left in the game, Kevin Murray carried the ball half the field and beat the keeper to put Workdaze up 6-5. The luck wasn't there for Workdaze, however, as Sweats tied the game, with only a few seconds left.
Such goes football!
