Back-to-back Division Title for Workdaze!!!

Workdaze made it to the final for the 3rd time in a row. The opponent was Survey FC again, although the Workdaze team was expecting the new team Citicars, which finished 1st in the regular season. But not only the opponent was a surprise. The Workdaze team got support from a record-breaking crowd: maybe 30+ Workday friends and family showed up to support the team.

Workdaze - Survey FC: This was the rematch of the classic final of last session. But it was by far not the same game. Last time, we had to wait until overtime and penalty shoot-out to find the winner. This time, it took only half the game until everybody knew who would leave the field as the winner.

The Workdaze team had the full squad available and played very focused: strong defense, great team effort, continuous sub'ing of players, and an always-dangerous offense. Everybody on the team wanted to make sure that the fans don't get disappointed.

By half-time, the Workdaze team led 3-0 with 2 goals by Joe and 1 goal by Ralf. The Survey team missed one of their best players and was far away from getting on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Survey scored a goal, but the win was never in danger. Joe's 3rd goal of the game made it clear. While the Survey team got more and more exhausted towards the end, Workdaze kept up the speed and was shooting from any position. Only an outstanding performance of the Survey goalie saved the team from a blow-out.

At the end, Workdaze defended the championship with a 4-1 win. After the game, the team and fans celebrated the back-to-back Division title in its traditional way: with a beer in the parking lot. But the celebrations continued in a local bar until late at night.

What a great victory for Workdaze!

We knew it would be a tough and close game, but with everyone on board we simply needed to play our game to win. The first half started with almost a goal for D4 within the first 5 seconds, but we managed to turn the tables and score an early 0:1 (Frank). We did not work back hard enough and mark our men close enough. We gave them too much space and offered shots, so they scored the 1:1 on a rebound. Joe (assist Frank) got us back into a lead, but we allowed 2 more goals in the first half (one rebound, one nice shot).

In the second half, we needed to turn this game around. We marked the men more closely and starting owning the mid field. Unfortunately our goalie Kevin was injured and Ralf had to jump into goal for the last 15 minutes. Defense played strong and closed down all shots. With 9 minutes to go Joe scored a great equalizer on turn on a dime shot right in the midst of 5 D4 guys. With 3 minutes on the clock, Frank scored the winning goal and we held on to the lead.

We played awesome the second half and can now look forward to defending the title on Thursday. Well done Workdaze!!!
