Recap:

Workdaze played a hard fought game against D4. The team has some new additions, and they are clicking well with the veterans. Workdaze was without their scrappy striker "Late Nite" Dan, as it was a 10pm start, and his wife doesn't allow him out past 8. The excuses didn't stop there as Workdaze was again without Kevin "My wrist hurts too much to play goalie, but I can play hoops". The team had to rotate Thomas and Sameer in the net.

Without Thomas' offense in the first half the team was very defensive minded and was able to hold down D4 to a single goal. With Thomas in the field in the second half the game opened up for both teams. Thomas scored on his patented midfield over the keeper floater to get Workdaze back in to the game. He then had two other blasts to keep them close. Thomas added a perfect pass to Jon in the closing seconds of the game, but the comeback fell short.

Overall the team played very well together. With a full compliment of players this session looks promising. Next up Survey FC.

Jon Ruggiero to manage Workdaze

The Workdaze soccer team has given Jon Ruggiero a 5-year contract to manage the team starting immediately, the Contra Costa Times reported.

A formal announcement was made to the team before the first league game against Fred's Market last Thursday.

Jon Ruggiero replaces Thomas Schwarz as the team manager, who was fired after a season filled with a long losing streak (0-4 in the first 4 games) and little discernible progress.

Jon Ruggiero has never managed a soccer team before. But he was always successful on the field. He is also known as one of the 2 towers in the Workdaze defense.

"There is not a more qualified person out there to lead," a Workdaze insider said. "He's been a winner his whole life. He is a great defender on the field, he can also be a great manager..."

Congratulations and good luck, Jon !!!

Number 12 reserved for the fans

The Workdaze soccer team decided to reserve the Number 12 for their fans in order to honour the '12th man'. In other words, no player gets to play with the number 12. Only the fans are allowed to wear a team jersey with the number 12.

We presented the first two team jerseys with the number 12 to Dave & Aneel at the Workday Company Picnic in September 2007, as a 'thank you' for their support and sponsorship. Below are a few pictures from this event.
