We had an unexpected good start last night, considering where we were yesterday at 4pm. Since several guys missed the game, here is a little summary:
At 4pm, we were thinking about canceling the game. Jon already called the indoor place to check for that. We had 3 players (Armin, Seamus, Thomas) on the list, plus Attila and Joe coming late, Jon knowing if he can play from the red card of last game, Ralf with a cold and an injured foot, and Kevin Jarvis with an injured knee. But it was a good decision not to cancel.
When we got to the game, we had at least a team and 1 sub (our special guest of the day: Mark Jaynes). In the first half, we were fighting like lions. Seamus and Jon, the towers in the defense, frustrated once again every striker of Survey FC and built that invisible wall around the penalty box. And Ralf kept the goal clean from the few shots that got through. Kevin and Mark (our newbies) did surprisingly well, and the rest kept Survey’s defense busy. We sure had more shots on goal than Survey did. We were at least even and the score was 1-1 in half time.
In the second half, we got support from Attila and Joe, but got a bit lazy knowing we have more subs now. In that phase, Survey scored and it did not look like we could come back for while. However, with our offense engine on full speed and a little help from the goalie, we tied. We had a couple of great chances (right, Kevin?) but it took us until about 5 minutes to go to score the 3-2. 3 minutes later the 4-2 followed. This time I was the lucky one to score all 4 goals, but I got set up nicely from Joe, Armin and the other guys. Our defense did the rest and Ralf had some great saves to not let Survey get on the scoreboard anymore.
At the end we were all happy to go out and play. With half of the team injured or new, it was a great team effort and we can look forward to the next games. We even spotted a new talent (Mark?).
