Dave was watching the final. Here is his game report:
View from the crowd
I was there. The entire game. I saw it with my own eyes. I left the comfort of my home, the adoration of my kids, the nuzzling of Maggie (our dog), to see this Miracle in San Ramon.
Down 3 to 1 at half-time, and then quickly 4 to 1 shortly into the 2nd half, our team came back to tie the game as time officially ran out. Then there was the scoreless 5-minute overtime. What next? Another 5-minute overtime? The ref seemed to be spending a lot of time discussing something with both teams at one end of the field while the rest of us in the stands were wondering what was to happen next – this was the FINALS for the CHAMPIONSHIP, he couldn’t just let the game end in a tie. He didn’t.
The penalty shoot-out began (with teams alternating shots on goal) and, much like the beginning of the game, it didn’t look good for our team. We were down 1 goal to zero. Then the miracle:
Frank – score
Kevin Jarvis – block
Armin – score
Jarvis – block
Ruggiero – score
Jarvis – block
And the game was over. But the sweating wasn’t. I have never seen so much sweat pouring out of so many people since we almost missed our revenue predictions back in ’96.
Congratulations to the whole Workdaze team and to Thomas Schwarz for his impassioned leadership. If you were there, you would have been proud. I certainly was.
I plan on being at McCovey’s to buy the second round.
